National Service Scheme

Dr. P. Manimekalai, Head and Assistant Professor in English took over as NSS Programme Officer on 9.11.22 . Our NSS unit ( No. 29 of Alagappa University, Karaikudi ) is actively involved in conducting a gamut of programmes, for the welfare of the students and the public. Identifying the most pressing issues and challenges, ranging from Global warming, Drug abuse, Solid waste management, Ragging, Plastic use, Removal of Prosopis Juliflora ( Seemai Karuvelai ), Women safety, Nutrition for Girl Children, Generating Employment opportunities, to Daily -day affairs like campus cleaning and sapling planting, our NSS unit is continuously striving to make a better tomorrow.

Aligning with the District Police and Judiciary Departments, District ICDS, District Employment office, the Unit conducts rallies, marathons, human chain, public awareness programmes to create awareness to the students and the general public against the social evils. Keeping abreast of the latest technology, our NSS students have shot a Short Film to create awareness against Drug use. This Short Film is part of our NSS Unit's contribution to the State Drive Against Drug (DAD).

Our NSS students produced a Short Film titled " போதை தவிர் " for Ramnad District Police Department and the same was released in social media like Facebook and Instagram by the Honourable Superintendent of Police Thiru. on 26th June 2023, the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit trafficking. Apart from creating awareness about the evils of drug abuse, the Short film underscored the theme of 2023 " People First stop stigma and discrimination, strengthen prevention". This is a milestone in the history of the NSS GASC Thiruvadanai.

Special Camp for the Academic Year 2022 - 2023 was held at our adopted village T. Killiyur for seven days from 24.03.2023 to 30.03.2023. An array of Chief Guests ranging from Veppankulam IR Mission Rural Director to Judicial Magistrates of Thiruvadanai, interacted with our NSS volunteers. As the motto of NSS "NOT ME BUT YOU" emphasizes, our volunteers, as part of their concern towards the adopted village, brought in a few issues related the local town buses to the attention of the Judicial Magistrates. The issues raised by the volunteers quickly resolved and appropriate action was initiated.
